Health Programs

Throughout the year, NHS sponsors progams on topics of health or social interest. Local experts present information for about an hour. There's plenty of time for questions and to catch up with friends and staff. A nurse is available to check blood pressure. Beverages and treats are provided. These programs are free and open to the public.


Second Wednesdays, 1:30 p.m. at Nokomis Square Cooperative, 5015 35th Ave S


Last Wednesdays (except July, August, and December), 1:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 3430 East 51st St.

Nurse Is In

Get your blood pressure checked, consult with a nurse or schedule a pedicure. You can also just stop in to chat over a cup of coffee and baked goods. The clinic is free; pedicures are $28 and require an appointment.

Thursday mornings 9 a.m.-noon at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4120 17th Avenue South.

 

Exercise Programs

Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00 a.m. Exercise classes tailored to each participant’s abilities. Suggested donation of $1 per class.

Mondays, 1-1:45 p.m. "Walk your worries away"- Senior walking led by NHS Service Coordinator Becky Beeskow

All programs are held at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4120 17th Avenue South.

 

Creativity & Conversation

A women's art group with no boundaries. Current participants crochet, paint, and whittle! Bring your latest project; enjoy conversation and exchange advice as you create.

Wednesdays 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4120 17th Avenue South.

 

Fifth Thursdays: Lunch & a Movie

Starting in 2011, NHS will offer lunch and movie on the 5th Thursday of each quarter. Watch for further information at “Nurse Is In” or call the office.

Other Community Activities and Support

 

Blood Pressure Clinics free and open to the public:

  • Fourth Thursdays at 12:30 pm, Standish Green Apartments,
    2210 East 40th Street

  • First Thursdays at 12:30 pm, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1720 East Minnehaha Parkway

 

Congregate Dining:

Weekdays Noon-1:00 pm, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1720 East Minnehaha Parkway.  To make a meal reservation, call Evelyn at 612.729.6668. The cost of the meal is $3.

 

Pedicures:

First and Third Wednesdays, 1:00 pm, Nokomis Square, 5015 35th Ave S. $28. Call NHS to make an appointment.

 

Support Groups, free and open to the public.


Low Vision Group
Second Thursdays 10:00 a.m., Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 1830 East 41st Street. Facilitated by Julie Rindelaub from Vision Loss Resources.


Caregiver Support Group
Last Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. (Note changes for Nov. and Dec. to 3rd Thurs.)
Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4120 17th Avenue South. For anyone who is a caregiver for a loved one. Aggie Sorenson, parish nurse, is the group facilitator.
